For some reason the "tag" was instituted this semester to keep kids from walking off with our pencils and pens. I know we're on a budget and all, but I do agree with the kid.
This situation has just been remedied for the moment as I have just found a drawer full of pens and pencils to leave out for those without writing utensils. I'm not sure who's been collecting the hoard, but I'm about to let them all go.
